West Washington Area Improvement Plan (AIP)

In December 2007, the Culver City Council and the Culver City Redevelopment Agency approved an Area Improvement Plan to promote revitalization, encourage reinvestment and eliminate blight.  The first few phases of the program are targeted on the West Washington Boulevard corridor between Centinela Avenue and Beethoven Street, surrounding two catalytic redevelopment sites. In addition to property acquisition, increased code enforcement and land planning, four programs were developed to meet these goals: a landscape median project, a commercial rehabilitation façade grant program, a “green zone” energy retrofit incentive program and a graphic identity/banner program.

Phase I - Wade Street to Beethoven Street

In June 2009, the City Council approved formation of the Assessment District in Phase I to fund the project’s ongoing maintenance costs.  As designed, the project consists of the construction of five new landscaped medians between Rosabell Avenue and Beethoven Street along West Washington Boulevard. Construction is underway and completion is anticipated for October 2010.

Phase II - Centinela Avenue to Boise Avenue

In May 2010, the Redevelopment Agency approved conceptual plans for this phase to include three (3) new medians.  The Assessment District was approved in July 2010 and construction documents are currently being prepared.

Phase III - Boise Avenue to Wade Street

A request for proposal for landscape services is being developed and the design contract award is slated for October 2010.
