Corey Lakin Named Culver City's New Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Director
The City of Culver City has announced the appointment of Corey Lakin as its Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) Director. Mr. Lakin will assume the Director position on November 13, 2017.
Mr. Lakin comes highly recommended from the City of Los Alamitos, where he served as the Director of Recreation and Community Services for the last six years. Mr. Lakin began his career in recreation and community services, when he was just 13 years old working as a scorekeeper and sports official. Since that time, he has overseen youth, adult and senior programming in four cities. He has also managed parks, aquatic complexes, and senior and community centers.
In the City of Los Alamitos, Mr. Lakin is responsible for collaborating with the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Commission and overseeing the Department’s 75 employees, eight parks, the aquatics facility and the community center. During his tenure, Mr. Lakin has helped to narrow the gap between expenditures and revenues and has created greater efficiencies for the operations of the Department. Mr. Lakin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach.
Mr. Lakin was selected for this position from a highly competitive recruitment process. “I am pleased to welcome Corey to the position of PRCS Director. His leadership skills will be instrumental to the City team, as he oversees our high quality recreation programs, aquatic center, Veterans Memorial Complex, park facilities, and our regional Senior Center,” said City Manager John Nachbar.
