- Introduction: An emotionally stirring work examining what it's like to grow old in a culture geared toward the young.
Donna Sternberg & Dancers presents Life Stories, an emotionally stirring work examining what it's like to grow old in a culture geared toward the young. Inspired by real-life interviews with seniors from the Culver City Senior Center, the movement tells their stories against a sonic background of the senior's own voices.
How has the greater Los Angeles area changed over the years, and what effect has it had on its residents as they age? In a society in general that marginalizes the old, their stories help form the fabric of life and are surprising, humorous and poignant. A multi-generational cast, mixing the professional dancers from DS&D with a range of older performers, will perform this multi-sensory experience. Concurrently with the performance will be a photography exhibition by Mara Zaslove entitled “Aging Gracefully/Lifecycles”.
Life Stories will be presented on November 4 at 8:00 PM and November 5 at 3:00 PM at the Veterans Memorial Building, Garden Room. The address is 4117 Overland Avenue, Culver City 90230.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at dsls.bpt.me for $20 general admission, $15 seniors and students. There is a special ticket price for Culver City Senior Center members of $10.
This performance is made possible, in part, by a Culver City Performing Arts Grant with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
