Senior Center Program Location Changes Starting September 5th

Courtyard renovation project begins Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Post Date:08/22/2017 11:05 AM

The Culver City Senior Center courtyard renovation project will begin on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

Out of concern for senior safety during demolition work, Senior Center programs will be held at alternate locations starting Tuesday, September 5th. The Senior Nutrition Program will be held in the Culver City Teen Center at 4153 Overland Avenue. Other classes will be relocated to other city facilities during this week. Some programs will be cancelled for that week. Information on class relocation and cancellation can be found in the September issue of the Senior Center Newsletter, or by calling the Senior Center at (310) 253-6700.

Also starting September 5th, the Culver Boulevard entrance to the Senior Center parking lot will be closed for the duration of the project. The Overland Avenue entrance will be the only access to the Senior Center parking lot until the project is complete in early November.

Parking may be limited in the Senior Center parking lot during construction. Overflow parking is located across Culver Boulevard, in the Veterans Memorial Park parking lot.

The courtyard renovation project will enhance and revitalize this beloved public space. Planned work includes: removing the existing fountain and creating a flexible staging area where the fountain was located; removing the center tree and planter, creating more usable, open plaza space; replacing the concrete deck with permeable paving; providing another shade area within the Courtyard; narrowing the perimeter planters to provide more usable, flexible space within the Courtyard; adding a shade structure to the existing shade structure to provide more shade over the entire Courtyard; and, installing a new, smaller, water-efficient fountain (with dedication plaque) on the opposite side of the plaza. The project is funded by a bequest from the late Gladys L. Paetzold, as well as City funds.

For additional information, please contact the Senior Center at (310) 253-6700.
