Sepulveda Widening Construction

Project Update November:
The Sepulveda Widening project is almost complete! The contractor has been working long hours to meet the project deadline. All traffic lanes are scheduled to open to traffic by the weekend of November 11, 2011.
During the week of November 14, there may be intermittent lane closures so that the contractor can conduct clean up and address correction items throughout the project limits. There would be no daytime lane closure beginning November 18 and until January 1, 2012. After the beginning of the new year, there will be some work to complete supplemental and remaining items on the contract with only 1 lane closed..
Thank you for your patience and following the temporary traffic control measures for the past 6 months!
From the project team:
- Project Management: Engineering Division, Public Works Department, City of Culver City
- Construction Management and Inspection Services: Willdan Engineering
- Contractor: Shawnan
The Project:
This project will provide for three (3) continuous lanes in the southbound direction along Sepulveda Boulevard between Sawtelle Boulevard and Green Valley Circle. Currently, within the project limits, there are three (3) travel lanes northbound and two (2) travel lanes southbound.
- Between Green Valley Circle and Jefferson Boulevard/Playa Street:
This is where most of the construction work will happen. The proposed work includes street pavement reconstruction, landscape median modification, traffic signal modification, utility relocation and other miscellaneous improvements. Street reconstruction will extend approximately 200 feet on Playa Street/Jefferson Boulevard, Slauson Avenue, and Green Valley Circle. The entire street will be reconstructed with long lasting concrete street pavement.
- Between Playa Street/Jefferson Boulevard and Sawtelle Avenue (Sepulveda Bl. southbound only):
Sepulveda Boulevard southbound will be re-striped and on street parking prohibited. Between Sawtelle Boulevard and Berryman Avenue, only afternoon period peak hour on street parking (between 3pm and 7pm) will be prohibited.
There is no change in lane or on street parking in the northbound direction.
When:
The project is scheduled to begin construction on Monday, May 9, 2011 and expected to be completed by November 2011.
The construction sequence:
The project will be constructed in phases to allow portions of Sepulveda Bl.street to be open during construction. As necessitated by construction activity, there will be through lane and turning movement restrictions that occur throughout the term of the project. At times there will be only one lane of traffic open in each direction. At other times there will be two lanes of traffic open in one direction and one lane in the other. Commuters are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes during the construction duration.
In order to expedite the construction, construction is allowed to occur between 6 am and 10 pm, seven days a week. However, at certain days, between Green Valley Circle and Jefferson Boulevard/Playa Street, there will be occasional night work between 10pm and 6am.
All business access will be maintained during normal business hours.
Please do not enter the construction work zone and obey all posted construction signs.

Staff will post project updates and traffic advisory information on this webpage, in local newspapers, AM 1690 radio and City’s e-mail notification system.
