Cultural Affairs


The Cultural Affairs Division, of the Community Development Department, is responsible for the administration of the Cultural Affairs Commission and city-sponsored performing arts, visual arts, and historic preservation programs. The Commission's purpose is to advise the Council on all matters pertaining to cultural affairs, including the City's Public Art Ordinance, and to encourage and advocate for the expansion of cultural opportunities throughout the community. Arts and cultural affairs are broadly defined as visual and performing arts, historic preservation, folk and traditional art forms, and arts education. On November 24, 2003, the City Council approved a comprehensive Community Cultural Plan that outlines the objectives and goals for the Commission over the next five to ten years.

The CAC is charged with the following responsibilities:
  • Administration of City Art Fund
  • Acquisition, installation, improvement and insurance of art work
  • Development and support of performing arts programs
  • Administration of Performing Arts Grant program
  • Acquisition and improvement of real property for the purpose of displaying art work
  • Review and acceptance of art work donated to the City of Culver City Sign Up for Email Updates

  • Preservation and Maintenance of historic entities and architecture
