CHARLES HERBERTSON, P.E., L.S. – Public Works Director/City Engineer
Mr. Herbertson Is the Public Works Director and City Engineer for the City of Culver City since 2004. He came to Culver City from the City of Hawthorne where he worked in various capacities since 1985, including City Engineer and Airport Manager. In 1994, Charles became the Director of Public Works for the City of Hawthorne and was subsequently promoted to Chief of General Services and Public Works in 1998. In this position he was responsible for all public works construction in the City and supervised the three divisions of Public Works, Engineering, Equipment, and Street and Facilities Maintenance. Between September 2002 and January 2004 Charles served as Interim City Manager of the City of Hawthorne. Prior to joining the City of Hawthorne, Charles was commissioned as an Officer in the Navy’s elite nuclear powered submarine force. From 1987-1991, he served as a Naval Reserve Officer with the Reserve Naval Construction Battalion Sixteen (Seabees) and the First Reserve Naval Construction Regiment in Los Alamitos, California. Charles is a native of Norfolk, Virginia and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Old Dominion University. He also has a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
