Helen Putnam Family-Friendly Work Environment Award for Excellence for the First Annual Bring Your Family To Work Day
In 1998 Culver City received the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence certificate of honorable mention and appreciation by the League of California Cities. Sponsored by the League Partners Program, the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence program was designed to recognize and promote the outstanding efforts and innovative solutions made by city governments each year.

Finance Department


Finance Department Wins GFOA Award
The City's Finance Department was awarded the Government Finance Officers Association award for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008. The award is for comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFRs) achieving the highest standards in government accounting and financial reporting. This is the 23rd consecutive award received.

Helen Putnam Award for Excellence for Utility Users Tax Technical Task Force
The statewide Utility Users Tax Technical Task Force (UUT TTF), of which the City of Culver City is a founding member, was awarded the prestigious 2002 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence Intergovernment Relations & Grassroots Advocacy by the League of California Cities. It is in recognition of the Task Force’s work in developing uniform statewide policies for the application of local utility users tax. These recommendations streamline the process of collecting utility users’ tax from utility service providers. Staff from the City Treasurer’s Office has played a key role in the UUT TTF since its inception

Interagency Communications Interoperability System (ICIS) Captures Prestigious State Award
A regional radio system that allows seamless communication between cities and public safety agencies has been honored by the California League of Cities. The Interagency Communications Interoperability System (ICIS) was awarded the prestigious Helen Putnam Award of Excellence under the category of “Effective AdvocacyCOMMA Intergovernmental Relations and Regional Cooperation.”

Information Technology


MISAC Award
The Culver City Information Technology department receives their 6th MISAC award in 2007. The Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) is a statewide organization of information technology professionals from over 200 cities and specials districts. The association promotes peer-to-peer communication among municipal IS professionals, offers, personal and staff development and enrichment. MISAC established a certification program to recognize exemplary achievement and performance in Information Technology practices. The City of Culver City under the direction of John Richo was recognized as an agency that excels in creative and efficient uses of resources in local government.

InfoWorld Technology Award
InfoWorld announced the winners of its InfoWorld 100 awards. Under the government category, Culver City was honored for its WIFI deployment. The annual awards honor companies that demonstrate the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goals. Companies were nominated by InfoWorld readers, technology partners, and end-user companies in late-summer. Solutions must stretch beyond the typical, off-the-shelf solution, using multiple technologies in innovative ways to serve well-defined business goals.

GovSpot Award
Culver City is awarded the Government Site of the Month by GovSpot. Each month GovSpot.com recognizes an outstanding local or state government Web site that demonstrates innovative use of technology and provides extraordinary value to its community.



Parks, Recreation and Community Services


Helen Putnam Community Services & Economic Development for the Culver City Ropes Course in Partnership with Fulcrum Learning Systems, Inc.

Police


Symantec Presents a $30,000 Check to the Culver City Police Department
On October 23rd, Sarah Hicks of Symantec Corporation, presented a $30,000 check to the Culver City for the purchase of a new BMW motorcycle. Symantec is pleased to provide a means for improved enforcement in response to their Fox Hills neighbors concerns about the speed of traffic on the neighborhood streets. "Good corporate citizenship is a core value of Symantec and we strive to be a good neighbor and a positive citizen where ever we are located. That is why we are so pleased to present a check for $30k to the culver city police department for the purchase of a new BMW motorcycle", stated Sarah Hicks, Symantec's Vice President of Product Management. Providing this funding is one of many mitigations agreed upon during the planning process to ensure that traffic impacts from the new corporate campus would be minimized to the greatest extent possible.



Public Works


Culver City Awarded a 2006 Project of the Year Award
On December 6, 2006, Culver City was awarded a 2006 Project of the Year award, from the Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association for its Culver City Dog Park project. This award recognizes Culver City and the Public Works Department for this outstanding endeavor. The Culver City Dog Park was a dream to reality project of the Friends of the Culver City Dog Park (FCCDP), a community based non-profit organization, in cooperation with the City of Culver City. The Culver City Dog Park is located on Duquesne Avenue one block north of Jefferson Boulevard and is open from dawn to dusk daily.

In 2001 Culver City received the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence for the City of Culver City Semi-Annual Ballona Creek Cleanup by the League of California Cities. Sponsored by the League Partners Program, the Helen Putnam Award for Excellence program was designed to recognize and promote the outstanding efforts and innovative solutions made by city governments each year.



Transportation


Culver City’s Equipment Maintenance and Fleet Services Team Placed 7th in the Nation for 2006
The City of Culver City, Equipment Maintenance and Fleet Services Division has finished 7th place in North America (for 2006) for the second consecutive year! This is no small achievement considering there are over 38,000 municipal fleets in North America. Culver City's leadership in environmental responsibility is nothing short of outstanding as Culver City was the second agency in the State of California to become 100% CNG powered for transit operations and became a certified Green Model Shop in the State. Culver City's Transportation maintenance team employees continue to lead our industry by example and Culver City's commitment to continuous improvement is a model of fleet services at the best levels.
