Culver City Public Works Environmental Programs and Operations celebrate America Recycles Day!

In recognition of America Recycles Day, Culver City Environmental Programs and Operations (EPO) was on hand Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the 4th Annual Trash to Treasure event held at the Star ECO Station.

This annual event celebrates the three R’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. STAR ECO Station presented a Recycled Art Contest with a panel of celebrity judges including: Cole Evan Weiss of 20th Century Fox’s “The Sandlot 2” and “House”, Oren Williams of ABC Family Channel’s “Lincoln Heights” and CBS’s “Cold Case”, Zachary Isaiah Williams of Nickelodeon’s “Romeo!” and Ashley Farley of CBS’s “Cold Case”.

EPO displayed a Refuse and Recycling CNG side-loading automated vehicle. Residents were able to see up-close and personal how efficient and clean this vehicle is. Students and parents tried their hand at operating the remote control arm that reaches out and dumps the containers.

Culver City EPO strongly endorses education on the environment and an effort to bring information to the community via our local schools, community organizations and special event venues is available. Call to find out how to schedule a vehicle demonstration or to receive information on the EPO Traveling Booth. 310.253.6411

Did You Know? Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a substitute for gasoline (petrol) or diesel fuel. It is considered to be an environmentally "clean" alternative to those fuels. It is made by compressing natural gas (which is mainly composed by methane (CH4), in a percentage range of 70% to 98%). In response to high fuel prices and environmental concerns, compressed natural gas is used in light-duty passenger vehicles and pickup trucks, medium-duty delivery trucks, and in transit and school buses.
