Culver City Parks & Playgrounds program staff 9 parks in Culver City where Recreation Leaders provide a friendly and safe environment for park patrons. We offer FREE drop-in activities at all staffed parks for all ages. We encourage everyone to stop by their local park and take a look at an activities calendar.
I see dogs in the park all the time, why can’t I walk my dog here?
Parks & Playgrounds staff are only on site for a limited number of hours. While we try to inform the public of the rules, people do break the rules. However, staff will enforce all city ordinances while on duty.
Can we rent the park?
Yes and no. There are specific areas that can be rented, like picnic spaces and fields, but the whole park cannot be rented. Certain areas are always open to the public, like restrooms and playgrounds.
Are the buildings in the parks open to the public?
Currently the only building open for public use is at Culver West Alexander Park. However, it's only open during staff hours, but can be rented or used for contract classes. During that time it is closed to the public. You can talk to a Recreation Leader on duty to get the times.
Are the parks staffed year round?
No; the parks are not staffed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
When it rains, are the parks still open?
Yes the parks are, but there will not be any staff on site.
Do I need anything to check out equipment?
Yes; you need a state issued, or a local school issued ID.
Can we check out sports equipment?
Yes, the park huts do have a variety of sports equipment, usually the most popular sports that take place within that specific park. Basketball, footballs, soccer balls, tennis racquets are most common.
Do I need to bring my own equipment to the drop in activities?
No, all equipment is provided, but if you prefer using your own equipment, you are more than welcome to.
Are the drop-in activities in the parks free?
Yes, all Parks and Playgrounds activities are free to the public.
Do the Parks & Playgrounds have any sports programs?
No, we have drop in programs that include sports activities as well as arts and crafts.
Parks are not staffed due to rain as well as unhealthy air quality. *Park staffing hours may vary. Please call the registration office for current hours at 310. 253-6650.
