The City provides containers for residential waste (black), green waste (green), and recyclables (blue). Residential Service Refuse is picked up from your home once a week.
The only days your trash will not be picked-up on its scheduled day are Christmas and New Years Day. You will receive alternate pick-up date information if your pick-up day falls on one of these holidays.
If you have a large amount of rubbish to dispose of, you may rent a large commercial bin.

Culver City Refuse and Recycling residential routes follow a three pass routing system that enables the drivers to be as efficient as possible when providing services. At the time the driver is completing the route, a sign on the vehicle will be posted indicating which service the driver is providing. A three pass routing system only means that the driver starts the day picking up one type of bin whether yard waste (green), trash (black) or recycling (blue). Once the route is completed with the one type of bin servicing, the driver returns to the Culver City Transfer Station to empty the truck and then next will resume the route once more and service all the trash (black) and then repeat the process for all the recycling (blue).
How do I …
report a broken lid
schedule a bulky item pickup
report a collection issue
Whether it's your garbage, recyclables or yard waste that's going to the curb, there are a few tips you can follow to help ensure collection.
Consider the three-foot rule; there should be three feet between carts and structures such as mail boxes, cars and lamp posts.
Cart should be within 18 inches of the curb.
Face the short metal bar toward the street.
Position the cart on as level of surface as possible, away from overhanging tree branches.
Make sure lid is closed.
Day before Collection: Do not set out before 5 p.m.
Collection Day: Set out time varies by community. Set out by 6 a.m. for 7 a.m pickup.
Where To Place the Cart After It Has Been Emptied
All carts should be removed from the collection area after they are emptied and placed in a storage area that is safe and secure. Doing so will help prevent use of the container by unauthorized parties.
Why it Matters?
Most collection trucks are automated with an electronic arm that grabs and empties the cart. This efficient process streamlines collection and prevents driver injuries.
How it works:
The truck needs clear, close access to the cart so the arm can reach.
Damage can occur to public and private property if the carts are placed too close to physical property.
Carts too close to one another can get knocked over.
An open lid could result in fly-away litter in your neighborhood.
