Culver City participates in the largest volunteer day on the planet, which is coordinated with the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, L.A. Department of Beaches and Harbors and Heal the Bay.

Culver City residents are invited to participate in the world’s largest volunteer day to protect our oceans and local waterways, from 9 AM to Noon on the third Saturday of September. 

Culver City along with thousands of other communities around the world will reduce pollution by sprucing up their local waterways, beaches and neighborhood parks. In Los Angeles County alone, there will be more than 70 cleanup sites, four of which will be along the Ballona Creek Bike Path at the following locations:

  1. Syd Kronenthal Park (3451 McManus Avenue); bike path entrance/entrada carril bici
  2. Duquesne Avenue (4339 Duquesne Avenue); north or Culver City Transportation Bldg/al norte edificio de transporte
  3. Overland Avenue (4990 Overland Avenue); behind Julian Dixon Library bike path/Detrás de Julian Dixon Biblioteca en el carril bici
  4. Sepulveda Boulevard (5000 Sepulveda Boulevard); at the bike path entrance /entrada carril bici
  5. The base parking lots of Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook on Jefferson Boulevard (6503 Jefferson Boulevard)

Volunteers of all ages can register to participate in Coastal Cleanup Day at any of the Culver City 2022 Ballona Creek Bike Path sites!  

How Do I Participate

Simply follow the steps below to participate. 

1. Register
This step is optional, but highly recommended. By registering with Heal the Bay, you'll receive the news and reminders regarding your participation in Coastal Cleanup Day.

2. Select a Location
Culver City cleanup registration sites will be located on the Ballona Creek bike path at Syd Kronenthal Park, Duquesne Avenue, Overland Avenue, Sepulveda Blvd and at street side along the creek at Jefferson Blvd. and Hetzler Road.  

3. Print & Sign the Waiver Form
Everyone who joins Coastal Cleanup Day is required to sign a waiver.

**All volunteers under the age of 18 must have the appropriate liability waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian before participating in a beach cleanup. Please view & print a waiver, have it signed, and bring it with you to event.

What to Wear & Cleanup Supplies

What to Wear

Be prepared for foggy or sunny weather. Therefore, items you may want to wear are below: 

  • Comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty
  • Dress in layers. Depending when you start it may be cold then get warmer later during the day
  • Long pants that can be rolled up, or shorts for hot weather
  • T-shirt and a sweater or sweatshirt
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Sun protection: a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen


Cleanup Supplies 

Cleanup supplies are provided at all sites (trash and recycling bags, gloves, data cards, pencils)

To make the cleanup even greener (if you have them), please bring buckets, garden gloves, and reusable water canteens
