Founded in 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.  As the top nonprofit homebuilder in the greater Los Angeles area with six consecutive Charity Navigator 4-Star ratings, Habitat LA has partnered with volunteers, donors and Habitat homeowners to build, renovate and repair more than 1,300 homes locally and worldwide since, transforming thousands of lives.  Habitat homeowners help build their own homes and pay an affordable mortgage.  By supporting Habitat LA through volunteerism and donations everyone can help families achieve the stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future.

The City of Culver City in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is excited to build ten new homes on Globe Avenue in Culver City.  This partnership will allow Habitat LA to offer affordable homeownership opportunities in a highly desirable neighborhood.  Ten families selected for the homes are all currently Culver City residents that are income and program qualified as low, moderate, workforce, and disabled or veterans.

Habitat LA houses aren't free.  Habitat homebuyers work hard to create a permanent solution to their housing struggles, and they purchase their homes from Habitat LA via monthly mortgage payments set at about 30 percent of the family's monthly income. The homeowners monthly mortgage payments are then used to build additional Habitat for Humanity homes.

For these families, the journey to homeownership also includes trainings and classes through habitat LA's Family Investment Program, as well as completing 500 hours of sweat equity building their own home and the homes of other future homeowners.  Each family has good credit and will pay back a zero-equivalent mortgage, ultimately helping to break the cycle of poverty by providing a family with the foundation for strength and stability for their future.

These homes are two story units with three bedrooms and at least two bathrooms.  Additionally, each house includes a number of sustainable features including drought tolerant landscaping, energy-efficient heating, insulation made from recycled content, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and more.
