Culver City Hosts King Day CelebrationMLK Image Slider 2018

The City of Culver City will host "The Beloved Community: Justice, Faith, Hope”, a celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  The event will take place at the Culver City Senior Center, 4095 Overland Avenue, Culver City.

“Each year, the Culver City community gathers to honor and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Culver City is inspired by the work of Dr. King, who committed his life to the pursuit of equality and justice for all, and by his dedication to use peaceful means to teach social justice.  I want to thank the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee and staff for organizing this event,” said Culver City Mayor Jeffrey Cooper.

The theme of the 13th Annual City of Culver City Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration event centers on a philosophy of what makes a community thrive - Justice, Faith and Hope.  Activities during Culver City's Dr. King celebration include a community conversation with Frank Dawson, Dean of Career and Technical Education of Santa Monica College and Director of the film - “Agents of Change”; Reverend Dr. Frances Wattman Rosenau of the Culver City Presbyterian Church; and Lt. Troy Dunlap, Community Relations Lieutenant for the Culver City Police Department. They will be joined by Culver City High School’s Sencere Watson (Black Student Union President) and Zebida Abduselam (Associate Student Body Representative).  The event includes a dramatic rendition of Dr. King's "I have a Dream Speech" by actor Gerald C. Rivers and a screening of the film “Agents of Change”.  The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, please visit or contact Ms. Arames White-Shearin, Recreation Coordinator, at (310) 253-6675 or by email at
