Dance Discovery: Benita Bike's DanceArt

Benita Bike’s DanceArt presents an inviting and interactive dance program on Sunday, June 3 at the Culver City Senior Center. Dive into an intriguing arts experience! Dancers perform three dances, and everyone has a chance to ask questions and share impressions. This performance is made possible in part by a Culver City Performing Arts Grant with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Additional support from the Culver City Senior Center. This performance is FREE and suitable for all ages.

Benita Bike’s DanceArt is dedicated to presenting polished concert quality dance not only in theater settings, but also in non-conventional spaces in order to share dance with people in their own communities. DanceArt has a long history of presenting dance outreach programs at community centers, art centers, libraries, and schools. These performances awaken people to the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual value of dance by presenting modern dance works in a non-intimidating fashion.

Featured on this program are dance works “Schoenfield Dances,” “For Rose,” and “In the Garden.” Brand new “Schoenfield Dances” features a rag, fughetta, shuffle, and boogie, and melds 20th century popular dance with a classical movement sensibility. “For Rose” is a tribute to the passing of the choreographer’s mother, and “In the Garden” brings an ancient, mysterious garden to life, accompanied by the sounds of night and Finnish vocal music.
