What ties do you have to Culver City?
I am native of Los Angeles and grew up very close to Culver City. My earliest memories were taking swim lessons every summer at the Plunge and shopping at the Fox Hills Mall! I have been both a homeowner and residential landlord in Culver City for just over 10 years. I reside with my husband and 4 children in Sunkist Park. All 4 of my children attend schools in CCUSD. It is my deep desire to remain in Culver City for the duration of my life.
What experience or expertise do you have which qualifies you to serve on the GPAC?
In addition to being a Culver City resident, landlord, and parent of CCUSD students, I am a classroom teacher of over 20 years for the Inglewood Unified School District. I hold a B.A. in Education from Howard University and a Master's Degree in Education from UCLA and have served on numerous committees, planning groups, and think tanks both in and out of the educational sphere. Education forms the cornerstone of civic life and educators, like myself, have honed experiences in creative visioning, organization, implementation, problem-solving and building consensus and cooperation in diverse settings.
What other resources (foreign language skill, participation in a local organization, practical skill, etc.) might you bring to enhance the quality of the General Plan process?
I am proficient in Spanish and English and possess strong reading and writing skills in both languages. I am an effective and empathetic communicator and have had success in building alliances in several settings. I consider myself to be a good listener and value diverse perspectives as part of creating the best outcomes for all.
What motivates you to participate in the General Plan process?
I am committed to serving my community and helping it to grow and thrive in a way that will make it enjoyable, safe, and sustainable for my children and for generations to come.
