Yard Sale Permit

In order to have a yard sale, a no-fee permits must be requested and issued by the City. 

Residents are allowed to request a permit once every 6 months.

Step 1.Select your yard sale dates

Your sale can be a maximum of either 3 consecutive days in a row or 4 days over two consecutive weekends.

Step 2.Apply Online

Fill out and submit the Yard Sale Permit Application, indicating the sale dates and a description of the items you are selling. Requests must be made at least 2 business days prior to your sale.  Note that Culver City Hall is closed on alternating Fridays.

Step 3.We'll Respond via Email

The  Business Tax Division Office of the Finance Department will let you know once your application has been approved.  This usually takes up to 2 business days.

Step 4.Yard Sale Regulations

Review the full municipal code.

  • No yard sale shall be conducted without a no-fee permit issued by the City. 
  • Permits are only allowed once every six months and can't be longer than three consecutive days or four days consisting of Saturday and Sunday on two consecutive weekends.
  • Sales can not start before 9:00 am or end after 6:00 pm.
  • No sale items can be displayed on the front or side yards or on a driveway. 
  • Only one sign, no larger than 15 x 20 inches in size, may be placed in the front or side yard of the yard sale location.
  • Signs are not allowed on public property, such as on street signs or light posts.
  • Signs can only be displayed two days prior to the first day of each sale period, and must be removed by 6:00 pm on the last sale day of each period.
  • The sign must be placed at least five (5) feet from the edge of the sidewalk furthest from the street or the edge of the curb furthest from the street if there is no sidewalk.
  • No attention-getters or flags shall be displayed.

Notice

Any person violating any provision of this Code shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be punished by a fine not to exceed One Thousand Dollars ($1,000), imprisonment for a term not exceeding six (6) months, or both.

Every day any violation of the CODE shall continue shall constitute a separate offense.
