Landlords are required to register units under the new permanent rent control regulations which went into effect on October 30, 2020.
The first deadline for registration is July 31, 2021, and landlords must re-register each year by July 31st.
The City will send out information about how to re-register in early 2021. Please sign-up for Rent Control email notifications to ensure you’re notified.
If you have previously registered, visit the Residential Rental Registration Portal to view or update your information.
Please make sure to have the Assessor Information Number (AIN) and Year Built for each property you will be registering. Search the Los Angeles County Assessor by address if you need this information.
Complete the landlord registration form.
If you need any assistance with the application process, please call (310) 594-7847 to speak with a customer service representative during business hours, 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
After you submit your information, it will be reviewed for accuracy. City representatives will contact you if additional information is required. Once all information is submitted and accurate, your Rent Registration Certificate will be sent to you via email.
All Landlords must post in a conspicuous place, or give to each tenant, the Rent Registration Certificate for each rental unit.
All landlords must also post the Rent Control Ordinance Notice in a conspicuous location in the common area, at the entry or entries to the building or units, or other similar location or locations as necessary to provide tenants a reasonable opportunity to view the notice, at all properties where a Rent Registration Certificate is required.
If a Landlord is in violation of the ordinance, he or she may be subject to various penalties, including administrative fines up to $1,000 for each violation (each day a violation exists constitutes a separate violation).
