The Recreation Division is proud to offer a wide variety of Recreation Classes for all ages and interests. From preschool age activities to arts, dance, and music, to sports, health, wellness--there's something for everyone! Classes are generally offered quarterly each season and some classes meet continuously each month.  Feel free to explore a selection of our class offerings: Adult Sports, Adult Art and Dance, Youth Sports, Youth Art and Dance, and Pre-School Classes.

Adult Sports

Adult Private Tennis Lessons at Fox Hills Park

Iaido- Way of the Japanese Sword

Iaido is the ancient Japanese art of drawing the sword and cutting in a single movement. Originally created for the physical and mental discipline of the Samurai warrior, today this martial art joins together various defensive and offensive sword movements, along with related weapons training, in order to develop a calm mind, better concentration, and physical coordination.

Notes: Must meet instructor approval. Testing fee apply for all belt progression.

Intro to Fencing

Fencing helps develop balance, agility, reflexes, and leg strength. Course is for fencers of all level. Students are grouped on their current level of fencing, as determined by the instructors. Instruction will begin with the foil and advanced students may also choose Epee or Saber. All equipment is supplied for beginners. 

Notes: Group instruction is done during the first hour and the remaining time is for drills and practice. USA Fencing Assoc. annual membership ($10) required (application form given at 1st meeting)Material Fee$20 material fee for equipment.

Kanani's Golden Tiger Kung Fu (Fu Jow Pai, Tiger Claw System)

The Class entails real urban self defense for kids and adults. This style of kung Fu is based on the movements and demeanor of an attacking tiger and includes: Empty hand forms, weapon forms, empty hand against weapon. Standard curriculum unchanged since 1968 promotes fitness, weight control, cardio, stamina, strength, patience, discipline and stress reduction! Our certified ranking system is recognized worldwide.

Let's get fit! is a dance exercise class that allows you to strength train and stretch your body with easy, unique movements. The each session is an hour long class, but if you would like to exercise longer, we offer an additional 20-25 minutes of class time on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Join us now to do low-impact exercises with a friendly and fun class.
Notes: Wear walking shoes and comfortable cloth. Bring a pair of 1-3lbs hand held weights and bottled water.

Yoga from the Inside Out

This all-levels class helps you improve physical strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility, as you relax and de-stress. Learn to deeply rest, be happier and more effective, by paying attention to the wisdom of your body and breath. Simple breathing practices foster improved concentration, a sense of calm, better sleep, and overall health.

Notes: Bring a yoga mat, yoga blanket or beach towel, and 2 yoga blocks to class.

Adult Art and Dance

A class with hand building and various types of projects. Emphasis will be on moving from bowls toward more complex forms. Such as, lidded ware, teapots and casserole dishes. Various surface designs are encouraged, from texture to engobes with scraffito and feather stripping. Projects are designed to fit each student's needs. Both beginner and advanced are welcomed.

Note: A Materials fee of $25 covers clay, glazes, insurance, and necessary tools to share. A unique experience to learn basic hand building & wheel work in multi-level shared environment- beginner to advanced.  Projects range from simple plates, mugs, and bowls to complex projects designed by students.  Wear old clothes you do not mind getting clay on.

Pintsize Soccer

This class is designed as an introduction to soccer and prepares children for organized sports league play in a FUN, positive environment. Children will learn and practice a variety of soccer skills such as dribbling, kicking and passing, trapping, throwing, and agility. They will also learn how to work within a team, the basic rules of the game and much more. Parents are encouraged to participate and must stay for the duration of the class.

Note: Wear comfortable clothes/shoes with close toe. All equipment is supplied. Care taker must stay during class

Pintsize Tee Ball

This class is designed as an introduction to tee-ball and prepares children for organized sports league play in a FUN, positive environment. The Skateside- Beginner

Focusing on safety and skateboard fundamentals, this class is fantastic for beginners to learn how to ride a skateboard. Learn skateboard safety, balance, pushing, turning, and cool tricks. Great for friends and siblings! This is a monthly class that meets 4 times per month. Skatepark is reserved for enrolled students during program time. 

The Skateside- Intermediate

Take your skills to the next level and learn advanced tricks, dropping in, and skateboard style. Students should be able to navigate the skatepark comfortably and do basic beginner tricks. Great for friends and siblings! This is a monthly class that meets 4 times per month. Skate-park is reserved for enrolled students during program time. 

Tennis for Kids (Fox Hills)

Tennis for Kid's Recreational Pathway classes are designed to introduce beginning student to the game of tennis with a variety of fun drills and games. Our teaching approach is built around the proven success of the USTA 10 and Under Program. This approach makes it easier for beginning players to learn the game and to enhance their enjoyment of tennis.

Youth Private Tennis Lessons: Fox Hills Park $40 (Resident), $51 (Non-resident). One 1 hr lesson.  Youth lessons can be scheduled with the coach on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. 

 

Youth Art and Dance 

Cardboard Art and Engineering

Come build amazing eco-friendly creations! At Cardboard Art and Engineering, reDiscover’s Facilitators teach children the skills they need to turn their wildest imaginings into real world items made from all sorts of accessible, upcycled materials. While practicing social distancing with their own personal workspace and dedicated set of tools, the group will have activities that encourage socialization and cooperation while building projects on their own to a group theme. Learn advanced cardboard construction techniques that can be brought home to generate hours of hands-on STEAM fun with just the content of your recycling bin. 

Dee-Lightful's Musical Theatre Workshop

dee-Lightful Productions offers workshops and camps for Kids (6-11) and Tween's/Teens (10-18). Production offerings include the Junior versions of one shows such as Seussical, The Music Man or Frozen. In 3 class sessions per week (10 hours) kids will have the learning experience of auditioning and rehearsing (the script, music and choreography) with 2- 4 final performances.

Note: Mandatory Orientation for kids and parents with Instructors: Dolores Aguanno, Allegra Williams-Stirrat. Material Fee: $375 due at Orientation(includes script/music, performance DVD, show license, other production costs)

Tiny Tots Ballet and Tap

Dance like no one is watching! This class will lead your dancer through two timeless dance forms. Young student will develop beauty and grace through their Ballet class and a strong sense of rhythm through Tap.

Note: Please wear tights, leotard, ballet slippers and hair up. Tap Shoes are not required but strongly recommended. $5 material fee (costume rental)

 

Pre-School Classes

1st Class Prep

Class Pre-K program is designed to provide children 2 ½ - 6 with a loving, safe, diverse and stimulating environment where everyone feels relaxed and ready to learn through play. Class time and special activities are planned according to themes designed to meet the individual needs of children during this active time of growth and development. Our zoophonics curriculum encourages an enthusiastic and receptive attitude toward school, with an emphasis on Kinder. Activities which include an introduction to Spanish, letter and sound recognition, shape and number recognition, cooking, math, reading and art, are centered around seasonal themes. Please provide a healthy lunch.

Beyond en Español

At Beyond en Español, we help your child begin the journey of acquiring a second language at an early age! Our hands-on immersion program is taught by trained native speakers with college degrees in Child Development and Education from the U.S. and Mexico. The Spanish language is introduced through multi-sensory activities that stimulate children’s natural curiosity and creativity and with the goal to foster life-long learning, the development of motor skills, self-expression, and socialization. Children will participate in art, music, movement, and play activities designed to develop self-awareness, and independence in an environment that is full of fun. Children will be introduced to their ABC?s and numbers along with simple math concepts. Upon completion of this class children will recognize alphabets, numbers, sounds of letters, associating words, shapes and many old & new songs & rhymes. They will start writing the alphabets, numbers and simple words. This class is ideal for learning and preparing for Kindergarten. Please pack a healthy snack. Meets M-F 9 AM - 12:30 PM. For ages 3-5.  

Notes: Must wear tennis shoe and light comfortable clothes. Class will follow CCUSD schedule. $50 material fee twice a year in September and February.

Learn N' Play the Bilingual Way

Children will "Learn and Play" in a bilingual setting. Children will participate in a day filled with multi-sensory activities and lessons, arts and crafts, recognize the alphabets, letter sounds, numbers, shapes, colors and songs. Children will also be introduced to simple science experiments, cooking, music and movement.

Instructions will be given in English and Spanish. This class will prepare your child for kindergarten. Please pack a healthy snack and lunch. Meets M-F 9 AM - 1 PM.  For ages 3 1/2- 4.  

Notes: A two-time $130 materials fee payable in September and in February. Class meets continuously within the CCUSD schedule. Children MUST be potty trained. SPACE IS LIMITED.
