Plunge Amenities

The 40,000 square-foot facility includes a 50-meter x 25-yard Olympic size competition pool. Our heated competition pool may be set up as an eight-lane long course or a 19-lane short course venue. The facility also has a 25-yard by 52-foot diving well with one-meter and three-meter springboards. The Plunge is fully equipped to accommodate guests with special needs. The City’s goal is always to make the Plunge as safe as possible and provide a welcoming environment for the hundreds of patrons we serve each day.

Accessibility

PLEASE NOTE AT THIS TIME: LOCKERS, LOCKER ROOMS AND INDOOR SHOWERS ARE CLOSED It is strongly recommended that those utilizing the plunge come dressed and ready to swim and shower and change at home after their swim. Outdoor showers will be available to rinse off prior to swimming per LA County Guidelines. The men's, women's, and family rooms are fully accessible to all patrons. For access to the pool, we offer employee guided pool lift assistance. The Plunge has (3) three ADA access points to the pool as well as automatic doors throughout the facility. We also have ADA showers and changing stalls. Our goal is to make the Plunge fun, safe and accessible to all patrons.  

Bike Rack and Drinking Fountain

PLEASE NOTE AT THIS TIME: DRINKING FOUNTAINS ARE AVAILABLE TO FILL WATER BOTTLES ONLY For your convenience, the we have (2) two large bike racks placed in-front of the Plunge entrance. Bring your own lock, and please note that there is no overnight bike storage. There is also a cold water fountain located on the pool deck to keep you well hydrated before, during and after your workout.  

Lockers and Showers

PLEASE NOTE AT THIS TIME: LOCKERS, LOCKER ROOMS AND INDOOR SHOWERS ARE CLOSED It is strongly recommended that those utilizing the plunge come dressed and ready to swim and shower and change at home after their swim. Outdoor showers will be available to rinse off prior to swimming per LA County Guidelines. Store your valuables in one of the lockers located in the men's and women's locker rooms. Bring your own lock, and please note that there is no overnight storage in the lockers or facility. We also have warm showers for those that will need to look their best after a workout.

Diving Boards

PLEASE NOTE AT THIS TIME: THE DIVING BOARDS ARE CLOSED Enjoy the diving boards from a one-meter height, or for the more daring diver, a three-meter height. Spring off the board, fly through the air, and sail into the water with a splash. Train for the Olympics or see who can make the biggest splash. The diving boards are fun for swimmers of all abilities! Please note that everyone under the age of 18 is required to take a swim test, which is administered poolside by a City lifeguard.

Swimsuit Spin Dryers

A swimsuit water extractor is available at the Plunge. For your convenience our swimsuit extractor will spin dry the water out of your swimsuit before it goes back in the bag.

Current COVID-19 Rental Guidelines 

The City’s goal is always to make the Plunge as safe as possible and provide a welcoming environment for the hundreds of patrons we serve each day. Please see The Culver City Plunge's new COVID-19 rental guidelines below for out current renters to keep you and your teammates as safe as possible during these times.  

COVID-19 Rental Configurations

SINGLE LANE USE- 1 swimmer per lane

  • Limited to 1 swimmer per lane.
  • Swimmer must remain in the center of their lane at all times.

 

SINGLE LANE USE- 2 swimmers per lane

  • Limited to 2 swimmers per lane.
  • Swimmer must remain in the center of their lane at all times.

 

DOUBLE LANE USE Guidelines

  • Limited to 4 participants per lane.
  • Swimmers must swim down (heading east) the lane along the southernmost black line and must
    swim back (heading west) along the northernmost black line.
  • Only two (2) swimmers may rest on the wall at a time and must be spaced six (6) feet apart.
  • Swimmers must maintain six (6) feet distance at all times while at swimming and at rest.
  • Backstroke is not permitted.
  • Any violation of the above procedures will result in a forfeiture of Double Lane Use and
    the organization will revert to Single Lane Use for the duration of their permit.

COVID-19 Rental Participant Check-In Procedures

  • Check in will begin outside the plunge 15 minutes to the hour.
  • No swimmers will be permitted to enter the facility prior to their assigned swim time.
    Indoor showers, lockers, locker rooms and changing areas are not available for use. It is
    strongly recommended that participants come dressed and ready to swim and that they shower and
    change at home.
  • Team 1 participants will line up along the South wall of the facility outside of the
    women’s locker room
  • Team 2 participants will line up along the North wall of the facility outside of the men’s
    locker room.
  • Coaches and participants must pass through the assigned Temperature/Symptom Check station
    one at a time.
  • Swimmers must then return to their space in line once they have completed the screening all
    while wearing their masks and maintaining the six (6) feet of social distancing and wait until the
    facility opens and they are allowed to enter.
  • Coaches will be responsible for turning away any swimmers in excess of number of
    participants permitted based the allocated lanes and Lane Use Plan chosen.
  • A coach or tema representative must remain out front until all swimmers are present.
  • All participants will walk straight out to the deck through the lobby doors.
  • Team 2 participants will be allowed to enter the facility first
  • Team 1 participants will be allowed to enter the facility once team 2 participants have
    cleared out of the lobby.
  • The front door will be locked 15 minutes after the start of the swim session and no participants will be admitted.

COVID-19 Rental Guidelines

  • Face coverings must be worn at all times in the building and on deck.
  • Social Distancing of six (6) feet is required throughout the facility and in the pool.
  • Dive blocks, kickboards and pull buoys are not available for use. Sharing equipment is not permitted.
  • Swimmers are to leave their belongings in a crate along the assigned wall.
    All participants must shower at the newly installed outdoor showers before entering the pool.
  • Spectators, guests and/or visitors are not permitted in the facility. Anyone wishing to
    observe the practice may watch from outside the pool gate on the grass area adjacent to Overland Ave.
  • Single Lane Use: Limited to 1 participant per lane. Swimmer must stay in the center of the lane at all times.
  • Double Lane Use: Limited to 4 participants per lane. Swimmers must swim down (heading east) the lane along the southernmost black line and must swim back (heading west) along the northernmost black line.   • Learn to swim/pre comp programs: It is strongly recommended that each rental abide by the following standards when conducting learn to swim/pre comp programs.
  • Any child who cannot swim 25 yards freestyle and back stroke unassisted without stopping must be accompanied in the water by an adult from the same household. Parent/Guardian must be over the age of 18 and must maintain a 1 to 1 parent/guardian/student ratio.
  • Students and student pairs should be spaced out at one student/student pair per lane.
  • Hanging on lane lines is not permitted.
  • No gatherings, meetings, dry land sessions and/or congregating permitted with in the facility.
  • Items left in the facility after a swim session will be disposed of immediately following the session.
  • Water fountains are available for filling water bottles only.
  • Restrooms and sinks are disinfected between each swim session only. Wash your hands thoroughly after use.
  • Prolonged breath holding is not permitted.
  • There will be a 5-minute warning (3 short whistle blasts) 5 minutes prior to the end of the swim session.
  • Team 1: must exit the facility immediately following their swim session through the south west gate.
  • Team 2: must exit the facility immediately following their swim session through the North East gate.
  • Coaches are responsible for ensuring their swimmers have vacated their lanes at the end of their assigned time and that all swimmers have left the facility before they are permitted to leave.

  1. Fill out a Pool Rental Reservation Form(PDF, 120KB).
  2. Send your request by email. 
  3. Once approved a permit will be finalized.
  4. A certificate of insurance will be required from Non-Profit and Commercial Organizations.

The guidelines and procedures pertain to permitting the City of Culver City Plunge Swim Complex, located at 4175 Overland Avenue. The facility is a 25 yard by 50 meter swimming pool which offers a variety of swim and exercise programs for residents of Culver City and the surrounding communities and is managed by the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department. The facility can be divided into three usable spaces and/or can accommodate up to 19 short course swim lanes or up to 8 long course swim lanes.

It is the goal of the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department guidelines to provide all Culver City residents, regardless of program participation, an opportunity to access this facility in an objective manner. 

Permits and Certificates Needed

Insurance Requirements

Insurance requirement for Non-Profit, Commercial Renters and/or a rental that is open to the public. A $2,000,000 liability policy is required for each rental. The City of Culver City, members of its City Council, its boards and commissions, officers, agents, and employees will be named as an additional insured in an endorsement to the policy. 

Permits and Certificates

The renter, at its sole expense, shall obtain and maintain during the term of this rental, all appropriate permits, licenses, and certificates that may be required in connection with the performance of services under this rental permit including, but not limited to, (1) a Culver City business tax certificate, (2) other required permits. A Private Party rental that is not open to the general public does NOT require a certificate of insurance.
