Culver City Symphony Orchestra Celebrates the Start of Summer

Culver City Symphony Orchestra

We close our 2023-24 season, and Clyde Mitchell’s first season as the new Music Director-Conductor of the Culver City Symphony Orchestra, with an exploration of the different moods of Summer. Join us as we journey from moonlit woodlands to the thrill of the bullring, ending in the fields and woods of the Bohemian countryside.

Mendelssohn’s concert overture to Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream conjures a moonlit forest near Athens inhabited by fairies.

Bizet’s Suite No. 1 from Carmen, one of the most popular operas, takes us to Seville in southern Spain for a dramatic story of love and tragedy.

Dvořák composed his Symphony No. 8 in 1889 at his summer resort in Bohemia. The mood of the Symphony has been described as one of “bucolic euphoria.”

This performance is made possible in part by the City of Culver City and its Cultural Affairs Commission, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
