Summer Events in Culver City

The Heart of Screenland has a packed summer schedule with events for people of all ages. Below you will find a running list of things to do sponsored in part by the City of Culver City.

Live Music

Summer Sunset Concert Series 2024

Town Plaza at the Culver Steps - 7 PM

It’s time to celebrate summer in beautiful Downtown Culver City! The City is pleased to present a music series on Thursday evenings beginning on July 11th at 7 PM in Town Plaza at the Culver Steps. The free, family friendly series will run every Thursday evening until August 29th from 7 PM - 9 PM each evening.

Seating is limited and available on a first come first served basis for view of the stage. Small picnic blankets and low back chairs are welcome in designated areas as capacity allows. We invite you to explore our numerous restaurants in and around the Culver Steps! Alcoholic beverages and smoking are not permitted at the concerts.

“Parks Make Life Better!” Month - Movies in the Park

July is "Parks Make Life Better!" month and PRCS is celebrating with Movies in The Park every Saturday night, all month long!

Bring your blankets, picnic baskets, and lawn chairs to see:

  • July 20 - Wonka at Fox Hills Park
  • July 27 - The Wizard of Oz at Culver West Alexander Park

Gates will open at 7 PM and movies will begin at dusk. 

Summer Movie Vacation Series 2024

Enjoy the return of popular family titles on the state of the art 4K HDR LED screens at The Culver Theater on Saturdays at 11 AM.

Theatre & Performing Arts

Culver City Public Theatre presents "Gideon and the Blundersnorp"

July 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th - 12 PM
Carlson Park

Gideon is a stable boy who yearns to be a Royal Cavalier. Alanna is a young viscountess who wants to be free. Thrown together by chance, the two must contend with bandits, a treacherous forest, and a giant monster that just wants to eat everyone.

Gideon and the Blundersnorp combines witty characters, pulse-pounding excitement, and a rousing cinematic/medieval-folk score.

Culver City Public Theatre presents "The Front Page"

July 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th – 2:30 PM
Carlson Park

"The Front Page" is a classic comedy that was the basis for the hit film, HIS GIRL FRIDAY.

“The Front Page” follows Hildy Johnson, ace reporter for the Chicago Examiner, as she tries to bolt the manic world of journalism and corrupt Chicago politics, to lead a normal married life. Her ex-husband and editor, Walter Burns has other ideas, and when a convicted murderer escapes and hides in the press room, Hildy cannot escape the lure of the newspaper biz. The laughs and twists come at a breakneck pace in this timeless classic.

All shows are free-of-charge, no reservations necessary. Open seating.

The Actors' Gang Presents Shakespeare in the Park

Every Saturday & Sunday in August at 11 AM
Media Park

Free Shakespeare-in-the-Park returns with a swashbuckling version of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors performed by mermaids, pirates and under the sea creatures all going overboard with songs, dancing and adventure.

Kontrapunktus presents BACH & Telemann: Collegium Musicum

Culver City Seventh-Day Adventist Church

Even though Leipzig did not enjoy the same illustrious reputation of Dresden, Venice, Paris, or Vienna during the Baroque era, it was a burgeoning musical scene would eventually be recognized over time because of two composers who started and continued a tradition of performing secular music for the benefit of its townsfolk with ensembles consisting mainly of college students. These two composers were none other than Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach. And this chamber orchestra that performed under them was known as Collegium Musicum.

100th Celebration and History Program of the Culver Hotel

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024 – 7 PM
Multipurpose Room, Veteran’s Memorial Building

One hundred years ago, on September 4th 1924, Harry Culver formally opened his Culver City Skyscraper, The Hunt Hotel. The local newspapers heralded this historical event and thousands of people flocked to see Culver’s new addition to his growing City. Through the years the Hotel went thru a series of phases, owners and occupants including John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, Red Skelton and even the YMCA to name a few.  The Munchkins from The Wizard Of Oz also stayed there. Many stories and lore exist about the hotel and its history. For the first time, Culver High School Interns, Eve Mott and Maren Brown will present their well-researched, photographic history and mysteries of the Culver Hotel from 1923 to today. Nothing will be left out.  Please join this exciting event.

Herb Gardening in Containers

Friday, July 26th, 2024 - 1 PM
Stoneview Nature Center

Container gardening allows gardeners to nurture relationships with plants no matter how much space or access to land they have. Participants interested in balcony or patio gardening or gardeners simply wanting to level up their container gardening skills and herbal knowledge will learn about selecting the right pots, choosing appropriate plants, and mastering container gardening techniques.

  • All levels welcome!

Culver City E-Waste Collection & Paper Shredding Event

Saturday, August 03, 2024 - 9 AM to 1 PM
Syd Kronenthal Park

Dispose of your old electronics in a socially and ecologically responsible way. Drive up, drop off and drive away. Staff can assist to remove from car. We want all of your electronics.  (We do not accept refrigerators, alkaline batteries, thermostats, light bulbs and air conditioners.) Your e-waste will be handled in a way that protects the planet, keeps your data safe, and creates jobs for people facing serious barriers to work.

ACDCA Back-to-School Giveaway & Resource Fair

A Child's Dream-CA, (ACDCA) 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children in our community. We invite you to our upcoming Annual Back-to-School Giveaway & Resource Fair! Free backpacks, school supplies, and personal hygiene products for pre-K to K-12 students. Information booths from local community organizations and resources.

A fun-filled event for the whole family!

National Night Out

Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 – 5 PM to 8 PM
Veterans Memorial Park

National Night Out brings together the entire community of Culver City for a celebration of unity. Hosted by the Culver City Police Department, the event will have fun for the whole family. There will be free food, music, vehicle and equipment displays, community resources, prizes, kid's zone with art activities and face painting, and more! You won't want to miss the K9 Demonstration at 6:30 pm. Bring your family, neighbors, and friends and come have some fun!
