Updates, Reminders, and Resources during Rainy Weather

A significant amount of rainfall is in the forecast for Culver City and the surrounding area. We want our community to be prepared and informed of what the City will be doing during this time. 

What to Expect (Updated)

  • Beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday through Tuesday night, the National Weather Service says to expect heavy to very heavy rains.
  • Peak rain rates could reach .5 to 1 inch per hour.
  • There are significant flood warnings and potential for flash flooding throughout the county because of the excessive rain.
  • Rain will significantly impact morning commute. We can expect flooded roadways and freeways.
  • NWS is advising people, if possible, to stay home to help keep people off the roadways.
  • Peak gust winds are also of concern, peaking from 1 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday.  Those gusts could cause downed trees and power outages.
  • LAX may also be affected by the weather.

Culver City first responders continue to take multiple steps to ensure safety and ongoing preparation. The Culver City Fire Department has sand and sandbags available at Fire Station One in downtown Culver City. Sandbags are available to residents, 10 per household, at our headquarters fire station location at 9600 Culver Blvd. They are self-serve and can be found to the rear of the fire station. Sandbags are also still available for free at the City Yard at 9505 Jefferson Boulevard. They will continue to monitor for significant property damage.  

The Culver City Police Department is working with the Housing and Human Services team, patrolling flood channels to ensure there aren't any unhoused residents affected by the rainstorms. The Public Works Department is monitoring and will clear major debris throughout the City. You are also encouraged to help staff with trash pickup by placing your bins 12 inches from the curb. 

Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's alert system Everbridge to stay informed of the very latest news about the storm.
