At the December 12, 2022 City Council meeting, the City Council considered taking action on Item A-1: Adoption of an Ordinance Establishing a $25.00 Per Hour Minimum Wage for Healthcare Workers at Covered Healthcare Facilities. This item passed 4 AYES, 1 NO (Vera).
Following the swearing in of the new Council Members and prior to the conclusion of the meeting, Council Member Eriksson made a motion to reconsider agenda item A-1 (the Healthcare Worker Minimum Wage item previously passed). City Attorney Heather Baker explained the procedure for handling a motion for reconsideration. The motion can be made by a member who voted with the majority in the original vote. If the motion passes, the original matter may be reconsidered.
Mayor Vera stated that there was a motion made (by Council Member Eriksson) to reconsider A-1, and a second to the motion was made by Council Member O’Brien. That motion passed 3-2 (NOES: McMorrin and Puza). After the motion to reconsider passed, Council Member Eriksson made a motion to not adopt the Healthcare Worker Minimum Wage Ordinance. The motion was seconded by Council Member O’Brien. Council Members individually discussed the motion. That motion passed 3-2 (NOES: McMorrin and Puza).
As a result, the Healthcare Worker Minimum Wage Ordinance was not adopted.
