Culver City is thrilled to announce its collaboration with Healthcare in Action (HIA), a street-based medical group that provides comprehensive healthcare services for behavioral health and substance use disorders, as well as housing navigation and care management support for individuals experiencing homelessness. Through this partnership, Culver City aims to address the healthcare needs of its unhoused residents by implementing HIA’s groundbreaking "street medicine" model.

"Our agreement with Healthcare in Action marks a significant step forward in our efforts to address the healthcare needs of our unhoused residents," said Culver City Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin. "By bringing critical medical and social services directly, we are enhancing accessibility and improving outcomes for those who need it most. We are meeting the needs of our community and ensuring that everyone has the resources they need to thrive."

Healthcare in Action Medical Group, launched by the SCAN Group in 2021, is renowned for its commitment to providing comprehensive medical care and social services to homeless populations across Southern California. With 11 mobile healthcare teams serving six counties, HIA specializes in offering full-scope general medical services, addiction treatment, psychiatric care, and case management directly to unhoused individuals using mobile medical vans.

The HIA street medicine teams operate during standard weekday business hours and provide 24/7 access to on-call clinicians. In Culver City, the HIA mobile homeless healthcare team will offer weekly services at various locations with high concentrations of unhoused individuals.

Key services provided by the HIA mobile healthcare team include:

  • Full scope primary medical care
  • Addiction counseling and medication-assisted treatment
  • Psychiatric care, including medication management
  • Laboratory testing and point-of-care ultrasonography
  • Medication dispensary and delivery services
  • Referrals and transportation to medical specialist appointments
  • Enrollment in the Coordinated Entry System (CES)
  • Assistance with social service program applications
  • Provision of mobile phones and GPS tracking devices for enhanced communication

"HIA is excited to collaborate with Culver City and introduce our innovative care delivery model to meet the complex and unique needs of the unhoused community," said Dr. Michael Hochman, CEO of Healthcare in Action. "Our goal is to provide quality healthcare support and services with dignity and respect to individuals experiencing homelessness, with the ultimate goal of facilitating their transition into stable housing."
