The City of Culver City invites the community to a FREE Juneteenth celebration and resource fair on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 1 PM to 4 PM at Town Plaza @ The Culver Steps, 9300 Culver Boulevard, Culver City. Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation and freedom of enslaved people of African descent in the United States.

With the collaboration of local artists, businesses, and organizations, Culver City’s Juneteenth event brings a day of reflection, education, and celebration. This is a free, family-friendly event and will feature resources, select market vendors, kids' activities, and community interactive art led by artist Marti Mannings. The day will feature a performance of the Black National Anthem, live music performances, including a modern Jazz band and West African Drummers and Dancers as well as others slated to perform during the festivities.

About the Juneteenth National Holiday

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. It marks the day on June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas to inform the enslaved African Americans of their freedom. This was two and a half years after the signing of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
