Access in the City

  • There are more than 2000 curb cuts creating a path of travel throughout the City that lead to transportation, shopping centers, municipal buildings, medical facilities, schools, playgrounds, etc.
  • Additional curbs have been cut in residential neighborhoods by request.
  • There is an assistive listening system for the hearing impaired installed in the City Council Chambers, the Senior Center, Ivy Substation and the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium.
  • Braille signage is installed at City Hall, as well as signage in the Veteran's Memorial Building and the Senior Center.
  • More than 30 Culver City street intersections have audible traffic signals for the visually impaired.
  • All City Buildings and parks are accessible, including ramps where needed, accessible parking, many automatic doors, lowered drinking fountains, accessible restrooms and pay phone TTY's at City Hall, the Veterans Memorial Building and the Senior Center.
  • Contact the Public Works Department for curb cuts and residential blue zones.

Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities

Various emergency preparedness materials developed specifically for people with disabilities and other special needs are available. Contact the Disability Services Program or the Culver City Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for copies.

Alert LA County is a FREE mass notification system for county residents, schools and businesses.  The system will contact you when an emergency or a critical situation happens.  Sign up.  Get notified.  Stay safe.

Disability Advisory Committee (DAC)

Purpose of the DAC: It shall be the function and responsibility of the Culver City Disability Advisory Committee to:

A. Advise the City Council on all matters affecting persons with disabilities in the community.
B. Review community policies, programs and actions which affect persons with disabilities and make appropriate recommendations to the City Council.
C. Render advice and assistance as requested to other City boards and commissions, to City departments and to private agencies on matters affecting persons with disabilities.
D. Identify the needs of persons with disabilities and create a public awareness of these needs in areas such as employment, housing, transportation, media, physical and communication accessibility and other needed areas.
E. Promote the total integration of persons with disabilities into all aspects of community life.
F. Perform other functions and duties as may be directed by City Council.

Members of the public are welcome to attend regular meetings of the Disability Advisory Committee.

The committee typically meets the second Wednesday of every other month. Meeting times are usually between 6:30 pm - 8 pm at the Senior Center, but are subject to change.

CalFresh Program

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) announces the expansion of the State of California’s CalFresh Program to now serve older adults and people with disabilities who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. SSI recipients may be eligible to receive CalFresh food benefits and applying will not affect their SSI benefit amount in any way.
