Culver CityBus Automated Bus Lane & Bus Stop Enforcement Program Began Citations on May 19th
The Culver CityBus automated bus lane and bus stop enforcement, known as the ABLE Program, began citations on Monday, May 19th. This program is systemwide to reduce parking violations obstructing public transit and improve safety, accessibility, and public transit reliability for riders. This program utilizes camera systems installed on Culver City transit buses to detect and enforce instances of vehicles illegally parked in bus stops and bike lanes, which impacts safety and accessible transit service.
Drivers illegally parked along the MOVE corridor mobility lanes and at bus stops throughout Culver City will receive citations in the mail. Violations captured through ABLE technology will be subject to a $293 fine. These are existing violations and fines that are currently only administered when an enforcement officer witnesses the violation. The use of ABLE technology will provide a more robust opportunity to deter these violations.
All evidence packages of parking violations detected by the automated bus lane and bus stop enforcement camera systems will be reviewed manually by Culver City. Low income payment plans will be available, in compliance with California state law. More information about the low income payment plan, and about the program as a whole, is available on the Culver CityBus website.
Culver City Launches New Online Homeless Outreach Request Portal
The City of Culver City has launched a new Homeless Outreach Request Portal, making it easier than ever for community members to help individuals experiencing homelessness receive the support they need.
The online portal is designed to empower residents, businesses, and visitors to assist in the City’s efforts to provide compassionate, timely outreach and services. Through the new system, members of the public can report observations of individuals who may be in need, which will then be directed to Culver City’s Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) and Leading Outreach with Valued Engagement (LOVE) team.
The Homeless Outreach Request Portal allows users to:
- Submit detailed, location-based reports online
- Choose to remain anonymous or include contact information for follow-up
- Receive updates and confirmation of actions taken
- Help connect individuals with housing, healthcare, mental health services, and more
Requests are typically reviewed and dispatched within 24–48 hours, with priority given based on urgency and resource availability. The service is free of charge and is not meant to replace emergency services. If a situation appears life-threatening or urgent, the public is encouraged to call 911.
To file a report, visit the new Homeless Outreach Request Portal or contact the team via phone or email. Detailed submissions—including exact locations, times, and descriptions—help outreach teams respond more effectively.

Culver City Firefighters Commended for Heroic Actions
The City Council began its May 12th meeting by recognizing three Culver City Fire Department members for their heroic efforts that saved the lives of three people. On January 18, 2025, Captain Tim Sullivan, Engineer Spencer Henry, and Firefighter Matt McCormick of the Culver City Fire Department responded to a carbon monoxide alarm at a residential unit on the 3rd floor of an apartment building.
Upon arrival, they detected low levels of carbon monoxide but were unable to immediately determine the source of the readings. While many would have considered the situation resolved based on these limited readings, these firefighters exhibited remarkable foresight and professional dedication by deciding to conduct an additional search on the 4th floor. During their investigation, Captain Sullivan, Engineer Henry, and Firefighter McCormick discovered three unconscious victims suffering from severe carbon monoxide poisoning. The environment was already dangerously saturated with the toxic gas, putting the lives of everyone in the building at imminent risk.
Despite the lethal conditions, these firefighters demonstrated unparalleled bravery as they carried each victim to safety, ensuring their survival in an atmosphere where the danger was both immediate and life-threatening.
The City Council commended the three men for their courageousness and commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
