The cobalt blue painted concrete pylon is surrounded by ¼” thick laser cut panels of aluminum or ABS in sloping curved shapes. The panels are engraved with gold-colored floral and leaf outlines on a powder-coated pearl white finish, and the panels stand out from the pylon beneath with the use of a steel structure giving a strong dimensional feel.
Matsuyama was born and trained in Japan and is now based in Brooklyn, New York. Mostly known for sculpture, painting and murals, his public artworks can be seen throughout Asia and more recently in the US. Matsuyama’s solo exhibitions have taken place internationally, with many related publications.
