There are three designs of tiles (in colors of blues, red, purple, black and cream) that entirely cover the free-standing elevator shaft, and they all relate to Culver City. One features a stylized version of the City flower, lantana; another has an abstraction of two letter “C”s; and a third has raindrops and an umbrella shape referencing the MGM classic “Singin’ in the Rain” filmed nearby.
FAILE is the Brooklyn-based artistic collaboration between Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller. Their name is an anagram of their first project, “A life.” Since its inception in 1999, FAILE is known for a wide ranging multimedia practice, including public art of many oversize murals. FAILE has had solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally, and has been featured in many international publications.
